virtual life
Why am I on this? Who are these people? I don't have this many friends... How did this happen?! I have voluntarily, by requesting or accepting, made myself vulnerable to 200 "friends". And what's with everyone putting up the most unattractive photos of me past and present they can find?!?! ugh... Facebook.
Most of these people whom I work with and who see me for 40 hours a week, leaves me wondering why we are compelled to have a networking-friend page to keep tabs on one another?!?! Pictures, you know what I look like, and if you forget, I'm just down the hall-that's right, the pale blonde that sits and eats all day in the fishbowl... Yet, YOU, and by YOU, I mean EVERYONE, feel compelled to accept and or request my virtual friendship. I'm heeeere! Imagine. Imagine denying one's friend request and said ramificatoins involved. Bained from exisitence and serious shit talking about how you thought we were friends, what I may be hiding, the near guilt you may feel for denying/ignoring or in some gloriously dramatic way, blocking a "friend". Facebook. It's a persons bff and worst enemy. You find out things you want to now and wish you hadn't known about said friend through inside jokes' innuendos, your info page, (if they are you friend, shouldn't they already know?!?!), photos, and the like, which can be the most dangerous type of all! The like, aaah, they'll getcha everytime... Slowly but surely, I feel our world turning into that movie set in the too near future with the girl from empire records who shaved her head in the bathroom and Cali's governator where instead of sex you wear a virtual eye coverer and virtually make your way through everything from kissing through climax...where after "the big one" NoCal and SoCal are now one, where Dennis Leary and other rebels live beneath the city who refuse to be recorded by government on every streets corner.... This virtual world is scary and I want nothing to do with it. Yet, I continue to update my status, photos and the (dreaded) like.
